11/10: CHEETAH - COLOURED PENCIL ON DRAFTING FILM

I took this photo today in better light conditions so the colours are more accurate.

I've put this to one side to begin work 'proper' on another Christmas commission.  I won't be able to show progress reports on my blog for that .. but will no doubt keep flitting back to this Cheetah pic for a little light relief between times.

  2. Hi Sue, I've used drafting film with cps many times but have now given up because I could never work a background, just out of interest, how have you managed this one, it looks really solid colour and a good contrast which I have never achieved.

  4. Thanks ladies ... I too hope the 'child' portraits go well and quickly :o) Actually, its 1 x 3 child and 1 x dad and 2 daughters!

Then back to 4 legged commissions (and whatever wildlife pics I can slide in)

Karie Ann - This background was done on the reverse side of the film. I used shavings/scraping from Derwent watercolour pencils and a damp/wet brush to smear the colour quite randomly. Then whilst the film was still wet I dragged some w/c pencils through it (ruins the sharp points of course)! Part way through I went over the back ground (on the reverse again) with more dark green/black dissolved shavings.

I do it like this as I may want to submit the picture for a UKCPS exhibition and washes made by using water or solvent are permitted.

  5. thanks Sue, I never would have thought of such an idea. I'm sure I'd need to do the background first to see if I could do it though!
